Did you use a relay or are you just interrupting the power or ground to the pump with that switch?

Exactly. If it’s not a relay and you’re expecting the voltage to travel so far in skiny wires, you just slowed your race car way down.

Fuse yes, relay no. But it is a 20 amp switch and I don’t plan on leaving it in, just did it to have a lil’ fun.

not sure if you know how relays work. there was a good diagram of one not too long ago on here. basically what they do is take the load off of the switch, and enable whatever it is you are running to get full voltage all the time. saves switches. saves burnt switch related fires. gives whatever you are running noticeably more juice.
